(SOUTH END, SPRINGFIELD) - On Sunday afternoon, the NEPSAC Power 5 Conference concluded their season with two championship games.
The second matchup was Springfield Commonwealth Academy National vs. Putnam Science Academy Prep for the AAA Championship.
Springfield Commonwealth won the last AAA Championship in 2020.
This season, Putnam Science came into the championship game 33-0. They beat Springfield Commonwealth twice in the regular season.
Putnam Science led the entire game. Their press gave SCA a lot of problems. When SCA got past the press, their half-court offense wasn’t effective.
I have only seen one SCA National game. I was surprised Isaiah Miranda didn’t start in this game. Miranda didn’t get into the game until the 10 minute mark of the first half. He was effective in the minutes he played.
Desmond Claude and Dashon Gittens led the way for Putnam Science. Both guards can score anywhere on the court. Claude is headed to Xavier; Gittens is going to a warmer climate at Florida International (FIU). Both of these talented guards will make an impact at their respective schools in the 2022-2023 season.
Putnam Science beat SCA 96-70.
Claude scored a game-high 22 points. Gittens added 20 points.
(Desmond Claude)
Miranda scored a team-high 16 points for SCA. Massai Graham scored 12 points.
