(WESTFIELD) - The Baystate Academy/Paulo Freire Girl’s Basketball team traveled to Westfield to take on the Saints from St. Mary’s High School. Tuesday night was the first game for Baystate/ Paulo Freire HC Jasmine Lovejoy. The HC for St. Mary’s is Rodney Rodriguez. This is his 10th season as the HC of the Girl’s team.

The game was close for a few minutes in the 1st quarter. HC Rodriguez said his team “rushed some shots” early in the game. Once the Saints settled down, they controlled the game until the final buzzer.

In the first half, St. Mary’s was very active on the offensive glass. They got 2 or more shots at the basket on most of their possessions on Tuesday night. After the game, HC Lovejoy said, “We definitely need to work on our boxing out…and being able to secure rebounds, offensively and defensively”.

The Saints had two great performances in Tuesday’s game from Amelia Willenborg and Emma Goodreau. Goodreau played PG most of the game. She scored and distributed well all night. Willenborg got to the basket consistently throughout the contest.
